In 2024 one thing seems to be repeating. As at the start of 2023, the topic of artificial intelligence is once again at the centre of attention.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) presented a new study: “Gen-AI: Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Work.” The download is worthwhile.

It is summarised as follows: “In advanced economies, about 60 percent of jobs are exposed to AI, due to prevalence of cognitive-task-oriented jobs. A new measure of potential AI complementarity suggests that, of these, about half may be negatively affected by AI, while the rest could benefit from enhanced productivity through AI integration.”

60% affected by AI. 30% could benefit. 30% will probably suffer disadvantages.

For managers, whether as interim managers or permanent employees, it is crucial to know how to deal with AI. At least in general. Not necessarily in technical detail, but from an overarching management perspective to further develop and strengthen organisation’s business models. And to take employees along on this new development path.
