Starting strong as CEO

In a recently published study by McKinsey & Company author Carolyn Dewar et al. describe how the best CEOs use the first 6 to 12 months of their tenure for personal transition and institutional renewal. But the challenge of becoming CEO is substantial. Ist not only about running the firm, its about being accountable for everything.

„In fact, one-third to one-half of new CEOs are considered to be failing within 18 months of taking the role, and more than 90 percent of those CEOs confess that they wish that they had managed their transition differently.“

The ascension of a new CEO can lead to an „unfreezing moment for the instititution.“ The study mentiones 4 keys to foster transition:

  • Not making it about you
  • Listening, then acting
  • Nailing you firsts
  • Playing „big ball“

We put an additional important point to that list: Stay in touch with the trusted interim management provider of your coice. There will be assignments that ware worth discussing from an interim management perspective.

Once you’ve made a decision stay the course and – if necessary – bring in qualified, experienced interim managers for demanding tasks. So you can provide proof that development and progress are possible.

Always at your side.

INTERIM-SHERPAS. We bring you there
