14 Peaks – Nothing is Impossible

Big challenges are often considered impossible. Whether in sports, science, politics, or business, the pioneers of ambitious projects face many critics – until it is done.

The documentary „14 Peaks“ (available on Netflix) is about one of these extraordinary stories. The Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal „Nimsdai“ Purja climbed all of the world’s 14 highest peaks with an altitude greater than 8,000 metres in less than 7 months. Reinhold Messner called the mission „a unique statement in the history of mountaineering.“

Because everyone called Nimsdai crazy, he called his mission „Mission Possible.“

Nimsdai gathered the best Nepalese SHERPAS around him. His real goal was to honor these SHERPAS and show the world what the world’s best mountaineers are capable of as a team. Their achievements in mountaineering are remarkable:

  • The fastest triple-header of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu in 2 days and 30 minutes
  • The fastest ascent of the 5 highest eight-thousanders in 70 days
  • The fastest ascent of all 14 eight-thousanders in 6 months and 6 days (the previous record was 7 years and 310 days by South Korean climber Kim Chang-Ho, who still holds the record for achieving the feat without using supplementary oxygen)

With the right team, attitude, and preparation, any project can be accomplished.
